Frequently Asked Questions

What is a postpartum doula?

A postpartum doula is a trained professional who offers emotional, physical, and informational support during the "fourth trimester," helping new families transition into parenthood with confidence and care.

Postpartum doulas help reduce postpartum mood disorders, improve breastfeeding success, assist with newborn care, and foster strong parent–baby bonding.

What can you do for me as my postpartum doula?

As your postpartum doula, I am here to provide evidence-based support to help you have a positive postpartum experience. I provide:

Emotional Support

The transition into new parenthood can be vulnerable, and postpartum doulas are experts in emotional support, active listening and encouraging their clients to follow their own hearts. Empathy, a hug or even a good laugh together can do so much for a new parent!

Evidence-Based Information and Support

Postpartum doulas are trained to understand what new babies – and new parents – truly need. The doula helps with soothing techniques, offers lactation or bottle feeding support, and explains normal newborn behavior and postpartum recovery expectations.

Practical Support

It’s all hands on deck with a new baby, and postpartum doulas can help the days go by more smoothly by helping with the baby’s laundry, doing the dishes or preparing simple, nourishing meals.

Partner and Sibling Support

A new baby means transition for everyone, including parents, grandparents and little brothers and sisters. Postpartum doulas understand what everyone needs, and part of their role is to help the entire family adjust and settle in.

How much does it cost?

My postpartum doula services are charged on an hourly rate of $40, with a minimum of 3 hours each visit. I offer a variety of options to fit your needs and budget. Please contact me for more information.

Do you offer night support?

Unfortunately, I do not offer support at night. If you would like to supplement my services with the help of a night doula, I can help you connect with someone.

How do I get started?

Do you accept insurance?

I do not currently accept insurance. If cost is prohibitive for your family, sliding scale rates may be available. Please contact me to find out more.

Why the name The Swaddling Moose?

It is a gentle nod to my Canadian roots and to the quiet strength of the moose — calm, grounded, resilient and adaptable — everything I hope to offer you in this tender time.
